It’s pretty cool to know there are people in Irish government agencies actually loving web standards and not just putting it down as a requirement on their RFP to be ticked. More power to the people at Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann for hiring the super semantic Happy Cogs to help them create their fine new website. Art Director for Happy Cog, Rob Weychert gives a nice rundown on his experience with Comhaltas.
With more web agencies in Ireland you could shake a stick at it’s interesting, nearly alarming, to see Irish companies are looking abroad, as far as New York, to get the job done. I hope they know I’m in Sydney, mwaha.

Glad you like our new site! There’s certainly no question that the Cogs are some of the best in the business, and when we went looking for talented folks, they just bubbled up to the top of the list. Geography was secondary.
Given that Comhaltas is a non-profit organisation largely run by volunteers (sorry, we’re not a branch of the government!), I wanted to build a site that would be as open and future-proof as possible. I didn’t want to rely on the continuation of an MSDN license, or even tie us into a particular hosting environment. So the creative brief I wrote was all about openness and web standards. A few months (and 1.6 million hits) on, it seems to have been the right choice.

Well done on the whole project Breandán, it’s obvious from browsing through it’s had alot of love put into it. Feeling more Irish when I’m away from home (sad but true) I’ll be sure to pop into a branch if I hear a session going on. Of course my apologies for the government association, no harm intended
